Prosperity Candle, L3C
Prosperity Candle, L3C was founded to serve one purpose: empowering women entrepreneurs in places of conflict and natural disaster to build successful businesses… to not only survive, but truly thrive. To that end, PC enables women in distressed areas of the world to start women-owned businesses producing candles, which Prosperity Candle in turn helps establish local and foreign markets for these women entrepreneurs. It is a bold vision with many challenges, but they believe that a resilient and resourceful woman who is offered the opportunity to develop her entrepreneurial skills can re-build her life with confidence, support her family with dignity, and realize her dreams for a hopeful future.
PC has proven the veracity of their beliefs with their successful pilot program in Iraq, where they teamed up with Women for Women International, to implement a year-long pilot program in Iraq. These women (whose stories you can read at Voices) have dedicated themselves to learning the art of the chandler (candle-maker). Attending training workshops and practicing at home, these pilot attendees have acquired skills to make high-quality candles for local and export markets. In March 2010, Prosperity Candle offered these handmade candles for sale in the United States in honor of Mother’s Day.
The company’s philosophy of Shared ProsperityTM, or prioritizing social benefit by sharing success, has made a huge impact through this pilot program and expansion into further countries is currently underway.
